Manteca → Hwy 120 → I-5 south → Bakersfield → Camarillo

Flexible departure: You can leave Mom's Saturday morning OR stay an extra night and drive home Sunday. If kids/Karen are happy and Mom wants more time, push it to Sunday. Either way the drive itself is the same.

The Route Home

Manteca → Hwy 120 west → I-5 south → Bakersfield → Camarillo (via 166/101 or Grapevine)

The drive

Manteca → I-5 (via Hwy 120 west): 30 min
I-5 south to Harris Ranch (Coalinga): 2.5 hr
Harris Ranch → Bakersfield: 1.5 hr
Bakersfield → home Camarillo: 2 hr (via 166/101) or 1.5 hr (via I-5 Grapevine if traffic clear)
Total: ~5.5-6 hr

Two paths home from Bakersfield

Hwy 166 → 101 south — scenic, less truck traffic, through Cuyama Valley (recommended Saturdays)
I-5 south over Grapevine — faster on a good day, brutal if Saturday afternoon traffic is heavy
Saturday afternoon I-5 Grapevine peaks 2-6 PM — leave Mom's by 9 AM to beat it

Heads up

Fill up in Manteca or at the cheap Tracy/Patterson stations — Central Valley gas is cheapest
Long stretches of nothing on I-5 — pack snacks + water
If kids are toast, set them up with downloaded movies/podcasts before leaving
